When it comes to skin care, there are different things that you can do and different steps to take depending on the type of skin you have. Dry skin in particular can be challenging, but there are ways to maintain proper skin care and keep your skin looking healthy and beautiful.

Causes of Dry Skin

There are a few common problems that are considered to cause dry skin, one in particular being a malfunctioning of the oil glands. If these glands do not continuously supply enough lubrication to the skin, the skin will become dehydrated and look and feel tight and dry. Winter is also very drying on the skin, so even if you do not normally have skin problems you may experience them in winter because of the harsher, colder climate conditions. Determining a Proper Skin Care Regime

The first important rule to stick by is that you should never use regular bar soap on your body, especially on your face. Even the best and most expensive bar soap is still going to be harmful and drying on your delicate skin, so you need to make sure that you always use an appropriate face cleansing product instead.

Also, you should never wipe your face dry after cleansing. For proper skin care you should stick to just patting it dry. Regular stimulation with moisturizer is also very important, but remember that only moisturizing a certain amount is going to be enough, and if you try to overdo it, you are just going to make the problem worse. By including a proper amount and type of moisturizer in your daily skin care regime, you will be increasing the water content of the outer layers of your skin, thus nourishing it with the moisture that it needs.

Drinking at least eight glasses of water a day will help tremendously, and you also want to eat a healthy diet that is rich in fresh fruits and vegetables. You should also try to avoid having baths and showers that are very hot, as this will only dry your skin out even more. When you can, rinse your skin and hair under lukewarm to cool water. As well, when you have a bath, try adding a few drops of bath oil to the water, as this will help lubricate your skin. Make sure that the moisturizer you apply after the bath will adhere properly on your skin.

It is really important to recognize that no skin care regime is more important than for dry skin. Not only is dry skin the hardest to take care of but also the most potentially dangerous if left untreated. Dry skin can progress and lead to serious conditions like eczema and psoriasis if not properly treated with the right skin care products. Angioma - Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

An angioma is a benign tumor that consists of small blood vessels.

It usually appears at the skin or near the surface of the skin. Angiomas may appear anywhere on the body, and aren't considered dangerous. However, they may be present as symptoms of another more serious disorder, such as cirrhosis.

Some of the different types include:

cherry angiomas
senile angiomas


A spider angioma is a type of angioma found slightly below the skin's surface, often containing a central red spot and reddish extensions which radiate outwards like a spider's web.

Spider angiomas are commonly found on the face, neck, upper part of the trunk and arms. They may also be present on the backs of the hands and fingers in young children. Many pregnant women, or women taking oral contraceptives, have spider angiomas. People who have significant hepatic disease also show many spider angiomas, as they are not making sufficient of coagulation factors. It is found in ninety percent of the females and around eighty percent of them are affected by it before they attain the age of twenty. The cause is unknown. Although painless and harmless, cherry angiomas may bleed profusely if injured. Cavernous angiomas are often sporadic in nature. They can be hereditary with variable expressivity.

Cause of Angioma

The exact cause is unknown. Spider angiomas are very common and are especially prevalent during pregnancy. Some of the possible causes of angioma include alcoholic liver disease which causes spider angiomas and cirrhosis of the liver which results in spider angiomas.

Symptoms of Angioma

An angioma may have no symptoms. When symptoms are present, they often depend on the location of the angioma and on the strength of the angioma walls. Large angiomas can bleed profusely when they are injured.

The symptoms associated with angioma include:

birthmarks as many of them are actually angiomas
stork bites which are a common type of strawberry birthmark
portwine stains which are also referred to as nevus flammeus
strawberry marks which are caused by capillary hemangiomas
Treatment of Angioma

Angiomas do not need to be treated unless they bleed or are bothering you. They can be treated with electrodesiccation were electric needle is used for touching the skin and destroying the blood vessels that make up the tumor.

Angiomas can also be treated with liquid nitrogen therapy. Liquid nitrogen is a cold, liquefied gas that is sprayed on the skin with a spray gun. This works by freezing and destroying the tumor of blood vessels.

Another option is the use of stereotactic radiosurgery. This is defined as a precise way of delivering radiation to the lesion, without affecting the surrounding area of the brain. This technique has been highly successful in treating Venous Angiomas, but it is important that doctors are able to find the exact location of the lesion.

I was reasearching the subject of acne the other day for a site I am building and I kept running across a ton of myths that many people believe. There is always a little truth to each idea that creates a myth and that is what fuels it's continued belief. Here are some of the myths I found about acne treatment.

Myth #1 "Poor Hygiene & Cleanliness Causes Acne Blemishes" This could be true if you simply never washed your face but that is not the case with most people who suffer from acne. The acne problem is underneath the skin layer and in the pores.

Myth #3 " If You Have Acne It Is Because Of A Poor Diet" This one could be true because there is some connection to diet and its' long term effects on your skin but it is not a usable cure. The connectin to diet and acne is not that you are eating so wrong but that you may be missing vital minerals and vitamins that help fight bacteria and infection.

Myth #4 "Just Pop The Acne Pimple To Get Rid Of It" This myth is downright dangerous to those that use it. You not only make infections worse you could actually create a scar that is permanent. Use the acne medication and applications but never pop the pimples.

Myth #5 "Time Will Some How Cure The Acne" This myth hides itself in many ways. Some people with say acne is only a problem for teenagers. There really can’t be anything like ‘The best skin care product’, because skin care products work differently for different people based on the skin type to some extent. A product that is the ‘best skin care product’ for one person might end up being the worst for another person. So, a more logical question to ask would be ‘What is the best skin care product for my type of skin?’. However, this still is not completely logical.
